What are the carpenter's responsibilities?

Working on both structural and finishing work, the carpenter creates the timber frames that form the structure of a building.

After studying the various options and drawing up plans, they assemble the different pieces of wood directly in their workshop before supervising the on-site assembly. Their traditional skills have been modernized, as carpenters now use highly sophisticated software to assist them in the design and layout of the frames.

Their scope of work is very broad: they can be involved in the construction of buildings, sheds, loft conversions, or timber-framed houses. In addition to designing or renovating building frames, carpenters are also called upon to create custom staircases, wooden furniture and fittings, garden sheds, and formwork.
